Formation of the Historical Society

The Rockford Pioneer Museum and Historical Society was organized in August of 1983.  The purpose of the organization was to “collect and preserve the history of the Rockford Area.”

Seven Charter Members met at Evelyn Fricke’s home to discuss the formation of a historical society.    Members in attendance were:

Bonnie Dau      Deloris Koch
Jan Davis  Marie Lee
Evelyn Fricke   Florence Loeffler
Venita Johnson

The group elected a President, Evelyn Fricke, a Vice President, Bonnie Dau, and a Secretary/Treasurer, Venita Johnson.

As word spread, other community residents joined the new organization.  A second group met at Marie Lee’s apartment and drafted the By Laws for the Society.  This group served as the first Trustees for the Society.  Members were:

Ed Clanton Cam Pratt
Vern Larson    Dale Wolfe
Marie Lee

Richard E. Dullanty wrote the Articles of Incorporation and registered the organization with the Washington State Secretary of State.

October 1983, the first official meeting of the Rockford Pioneer Museum and Historical Society was held in the banquet room of the Harvest Moon Restaurant.

The Motto is “ The success of the future is built on foundations of the past.”

Today, the Society has three museum locations.  The Rockford Pioneer Museum is located at 10 S. First Street, Rockford, WA.  The Military Museum is located at the site of the Edward Leehan Post 165, 140 W. Emma Street.  The third museum occupies space adjacent to the Rockford Park on the SE Spokane County Fair Grounds.
